The Talas valley is famous for its many historical sites and ancient archaeological sites dating from the 7th century BC. Before the 14th century AD. There is special place one of the most mysterious and ancient cities of Central Asia - Kulan-Koruk. The remains of the fortress are located on the open plateau at the foot of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too Range.

The first mention of Kulan-Koruk was found in the Chinese historical chronicle of Ban Gu. According to one of the modern hypotheses, the Kulan-Koruk ruins are the ancient city-fortress of Zhizhichin, which was once the military garrison of the Huns (ancient Turkic nomadic peoples) Zhizhi-shanyu leader.

The main feature of the fortified city was the Roman elements of the structure, reminiscent of the fort. In addition, the area where this military fortification was located, has a unique historical value. According to the Chinese historical chronicles, there was the first military contact between the ancient Romans and the Chinese occurred.

About the city-fortress Zhizhichen written many historical books, such authors as McGovern and Debs GG. And also L. Gumilev wrote about the Talas battle 36 years BC. " In 2015, on the basis of the epic battle that unfolded in the Talas region, the Chinese film "Dragon Sword" was shot, where the Roman commander Lucia with his legion and the commander of the detachment of protection of the Western region of Ho a battle for the sovereignty of China against the emperor of Tiberius.

Now there are only ruins, although the original height of the fortress was 6 meters. However, in some places the walls of the city still retained their original appearance, despite the centuries-old history. Probably, this is due to the fact that the city was built in a special way. The walls are constructed with a clay mixture, prepared by a special technology, which allowed the building to freeze as cement.

The external and internal sides of the walls were designed   in the form of fish scales and had a solid foundation. In addition, the whole city was surrounded by an earthy moat 4 km long and filled with water from nearby rivers. All this should serve as a reliable defense against the invasion of enemies.

Now the territory of the ancient settlement Kulan-Koruk occupies about 1 hectare. There you can see the ruins of an old stone fortress built on Roman masonry technology, architectural structures, and rock carvings with runic inscriptions.
