Kol-Tor (Kol-Kogur) is one of the most wonderful lakes of the Northern Tien Shan. The lake is located in the fascinating gorge of the same name in the intermountain cavity of the Kungei Ala-Too Range at an altitude of 2725 meters above sea level.

Kol-Tor is famous for its unusually beautiful turquoise color. While glacier starts melting, It washes away the soil and grinds stones and rocks into dust, that’s why the lake sparkles in bright sunlight with a green-blue color. From time to time the bowl of the lake overflows, then excess water flows out, and the stream that goes to the ground.

A unique lake often includes a tour of the picturesque Kegety gorge. The way to Kol-Tor passes through the slopes of the gorges, overgrown with spruce forests and thickets of dog rose, barberry and mountain ash. The area around the lake is distinguished by a variety of forest berries and medicinal herbs, which grow here in large numbers. According to many travelers, the pristine beauty of the lake captivates them at first glance and makes you come back again and again.
